INTRODUCTION TO WORD PROCESSING

What is a table?

A table in Microsoft Word is a grid of cells arranged in rows and columns. Tables can be used to organize any type of content, whether you’re working with text or numerical data.

Here are the steps to create a table in MS Word:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Place your cursor where you want to insert the table.
  3. Click on the “Insert” tab on the top ribbon menu.
  4. Click on the “Table” option and select the number of rows and columns you want for your table.

MERGING

Merging cells combines two or more adjacent cells of the same size into one larger cell. Splitting cells divides one cell into multiple cells

Adding formulas in Microsoft Word allows you to perform calculations on data within your table. You can use formulas to add up numbers, calculate averages, and more.

Borders are lines that can be added around the edges of cells or around the entire table. Shading is a background color or pattern that can be applied to cells or the entire table.

Here are the steps to merge and split cells in MS Word:

  1. To merge cells, select the cells you want to merge. They can be adjacent cells in a row or column. Or they can be adjacent cells that span multiple rows and columns. When you have your cells selected, right-click any of the selected cells, and then choose the “Merge Cells” command on the context menu. If you prefer using Word’s menus, you can also head to the Table Tools “Layout” tab, and then click the “Merge Cells” button there.
  2. To split cells, click on the merged cell that you want to split. On the Layout tab, select the Split Cells button. The Split Cells pop-up menu will appear in the middle of your document. Fill in the number of rows and columns you want to split.

SPLITTING OF CELLS

Here’s how you can split a cell into multiple rows or columns in Microsoft Word:

  1. Click in a cell or select multiple cells that you want to split.
  2. Under Table Tools, on the Layout tab, in the Merge group, click Split Cells.
  3. Enter the number of columns or rows that you want to split the selected cells into.
